Piaget Yellow Gold 'Tiger Eye' Stone Dial ref. 9741
Piaget created a bespoke service on watch design during the 70s and 80s. They allowed customers to choose materials and stones for the case/ bracelet/ dial.
This beautiful dial is made from the stone ‘tigers eye’ which is a member of the chalcedony mineral family. It has a silky luster and attractive golden-brown colour with iron stripes throughout. The stone is also said to have protective powers and used by warriors in ancient times.
Many watch brands have used this stone but usually none better than Piaget with the stripes unusually going down the dial rather than across. The dial is incredible with no cracks and very eye catching in the natural light. It seems more and more Piaget stones dials are being added to collections because of the limited supply of high quality examples.
The case shape is another unusual 18ct yellow gold cushion shape from Piaget. The watch also appears to have no lugs when looking down onto it with the strap fitting into the lugs on the rear of the case.
This watch is fitted with the thin manual wind calibre 9p which was regarded for accuracy and its slim size for dress watches by Piaget. It also comes with its original 18ct yellow gold branded buckle.
